Bill Gates:- The 41 year old Chairman of Microsoft Corp. is the world's richest citizen. He was easily the most sought-after celebrity at the World Economic Forum, held at Davos in early February 1997. He was in India during the first week of March 1997 on a three-day business tour. The American tycoon predicts that the speed of computer communications will increase ten-fold in the next five years making today's computers obsolete.
Mr. Bill Gates, who is the richest man ever in history, makes about Rs. 157 crore a day. According to the report in the Internet edition of The Times of London.

Dear Friend,
The ability to get along well with people and winning them over to our way is the vital ingredient of success and happiness as everything that comes to us in life has to come through other people. Therefore, we must get in step with people; tune our thinking to their wavelength. We must first think in terms of the other person's wants and interests, learn about their yearnings, ambitions, interests, others, the more they will flock to our way of thinking. We must make them a part of our act, give them a part in our show. We must help them to help us. We must change the "ME" and "YOU" to "WE".
The other person is a thousand times more interested in himself than he is in you or me. The first thing he wants to know concerning any proposition you make to him is, "What do I get out of it". Therefore, magnify the "YOU" and minimize the "I". First start talking in terms of his interests, needs and aspirations. Let him see how large is what he will get. Give like for like. Give others more than you ask from them. What you are worth depends upon what you are worth to the other individual. When you want more, you have to make yourself worth more.
The meteoric rise of India's 12th Vice-President, Mr. Bhairom Singh Shekhawat is attributable, to a great extent, to his personal trait of winning friends cutting across party lines and making no enemies. He helped others. Others helped him to come up in life. No wonder from a village lad tending bajra fields in remote village (Khachriyavas) in Sikar District of Rajasthan, this grassroot leader catapulted himself first as Chief Ministers of his State (and that too three times) and then to the second topmost constitutional slot of the country. His dictum is "Love for all, malice for none". That explains his resounding victory in the Vice-Presidential elections (454-305) even beyond the expectation of his staunchest supporter.
There is an interesting thing about liking people, which is that they in turn like us. When we like people, we are not appealing to their intellect but to the deep-rooted social instinct and desire in them to be wanted, to be recognized and to be appreciated. Similarly, when you help others, they in turn automatically start helping you. You can never elevate yourself by pushing the other person down. Instead, you can help him to help you and lift you up. While aiming high and aspiring to reach the top, we must bear in mind that we are neither arrows nor birds. Step by step, we have to climb to the summit and the people who will give us a leg up along the way are those whom we have befriended and helped.
This is exactly what has happened in the almost four-decade journey of your magazine CSR, which, encouraged by the warm response of its readers, has been contributing its bit towards enriching their knowledge in a wide spectrum. As per the wishes of most of you, we have decided to bring out two Booklets instead of one earlier. We hope that the contents of these Booklets, "How To Crack CAT" and "How To Prepare For Civil Services Examination" as suggested by you will meet your expectations. This is another step by CSR to continuously provide the best possible material to you.
To be interesting, be interested. Few human beings are proof against the implied flattery of rape attention. Nothing else is so flattering as exclusive attention to the person who is speaking to us. Many people fail to make a favourable impression because they don't listen attentively. The royal road to a man's heart is to encourage him to talk about himself and the things be treasures the most. Even where you cannot oblige, you can certainly speak obligingly. Speak to people in a positive language, picturing pleasure and blocking out pain. Make your words ring wedding bells and not funeral chimes. You will be welcome everywhere and win your way to success.

Think Success and Reap Success
Self confidence, bold action, vibrating enthusiasm, courage, resoluteness, perseverance and above all, hope and positive attitude constitute the foundation of your success and happiness. You can decide your destiny and fashion your fate by your own efforts, industry and hard work. You can get your girl or man, gain your goal, and capture your coveted objective by daring and doing. Mere talking, idle day-dreaming or aimless drifting will not take you to your goal, but will only divert your attention and dissipate your energies and resources.
You have to to toil hard, lift the load, rack your brains and sweat it out to secure a worthy goal. You cannot expect success without struggle or competition. We can find success coming before work only in the dictionary. In real life, it invariably follows hard and imaginative toil. There is always the battle to be fought before victory is won. Success is not a matter of luck or even of genius. It depends entirely on adequate preparation, able execution, persistence and willpower.
See the triumphant comeback of India's ace leg-spinner, Anil Kumble, who despite a year long lay off due to an injury, has added one more feather to his cap, through sheer dogged perseverance and strong determination to become the first Indian leg-spinner by claiming his 300th wicket in Third Test against England in Bangalore on December 20, 2001; thus joining the elite club of world spinners as the fourth bowler who have 300 or more wickets in their kitty. (Earlier, he earned the distinction of becoming the second bowler in Test Cricket history to bag all the ten wickets in an innings against Pakistan in New Delhi in 1999 after Jim Laker of England in 1956). Same is true of Sri Lankan off-spinner world's No.2 spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan who became the first bowler in Test Cricket to bag 10 or more wickets in a match 10 times.
The man who does not want badly enough to do a thing, will make any number of excuses for not doing it. If, however, he is determined to achieve a specific goal, he will overcome the most formidable obstacles. Hardships and obstacles are not meant to be evaded, but to be mastered. Resist and conquer all sorts of hardships and it will grow into a habit and become second nature to you.
In ordesr to succeed, you have got to want and want very badly indeed, your well chosen objective. Your sheer tenacity will drive and push you to the top. The right sort of ambition, an ambition of a challenging nature is truly a tremendous spur to achievement.
Never allow yourself to think that any task is beyond you, any position too high. All is possible to him that believeth.

Life Is What You Make It.
Sooner or later the man who wins is the man who thinks he can. Believe you can, and act on that belief and certainly you will succeed. You cannot but win, so long as your faith remains unshaken and your will unbroken. Anything accomplished by any other human being can most certainly be accomplished by us as well. In fact, if we try harder, we can accomplish a lot more. Everyday we find some record or the other being shattered and a new one established. Each year sees new progresss made in almost every field. The success story of every great one proclaims that whatever one's chosen field of activity, if he or she works hard, works with faith, works with concentration and determination he or she will positively reach the top and crown himself with sure success.
Firm must be your will, patient your heart and passionate your aspiration to attain the fulfillment of your great goal. All the performances of great human art, unbelievable discoveries and miraculous feats of scientific achievements, which we regard as wonders are nothing but perseverance in disguise.
How a man does what he does determines whether he will get out of it maximum results with minimum input. Thus, the how of work constitutes its technique or know-how. In other words, technique or know-how refers to getting superior results out of using the same amount of resources and effort, more skillfully. The best way to rise above the crowd is to do the ordinary thing in an extraordinary way. Doing the ordinary can become an extraordinary experience producing extraordinary results, if we do the ordinary thing with extraordinary enthusiasm or if we introduce into the ordinary some new technique or skill. To emerge as the champion one has to put all he has into every punch.
Anyone can learn from experience, the costly and time-consuming process of trial and error. But the better way is to learn and benefit from the experience of others who have traveled our way before us. Their experience is gold for the taking. To profit by the experience of others, introducing possible improvements and innovations is the mark of a thinking man.
What we call luck is simply pluck and perseverance. It is doing things over and over with courage, faith and will power. We get out of life just what we put into it. No one gets anything worthwhile by accident. Our hidden desires motivate and drive us to work towards the fulfillment of our goals consciously as well as subconsciously. Biographies of great people proclaim that life is what we make it.
As indicated by the flood of mail we have received, we are happy to learn that you have enjoyed going through the feature on the gala function to honor the winners of the first ever Super Brain Super Personality Contest 1997 published in the last issue of CSR. Many of you have also seen the function telecast by National DD II, Delhi Diary, Siti Cable and Asia Television Networked (ATM). Overwhelmed by the spontaneous response from the youth and the media, we propose to start the second Super Brain-cum-Personality Contest soon. We welcome new ideas and suggestions.
