'NAVA NAARI KUNJARA' - ELEPHANT made of WOMEN : This highly imaginative and creative relief work of elephant (just 1 foot high) made of 9 women can be seen in the outer wall panels of First floor of the main Gopuram (Temple Tower). Thirukkurungudi - நின்ற நம்பி பெருமாள் Sri Nindra Nambi Perumal Temple is one of the 108 Divya desam (Vaishnavite - Hindu temples that are sacred for Lord Vishnu) and was sung (Mangalasasanam) by four Azhwars(Vaishnavite saints), namely Thirumazhisai Azhwar, Nammalvar, Periazhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar. The uniqueness of the temple is the Lord in all three postures in separate shirines. - 'நின்ற கோலம்' ('Ninra Kolam' - Standing posture), 'வீற்றிருந்த கோலம்' ('Veetrintha Kolam' - seated posture) and 'கிடந்த கோலம்' ('Kidantha Kolam' - Lying posture). The inscriptions on the temple walls tell the construction date back to 10th century. But most of the present architecture and sculpture works were done by Vijayanagar Nayak rulers (15th-16th century CE). #Thirukurungudi is 45 km from Tirunelveli, South India.
