Manisha Koirala Bathing - Champion - Sunny Deol

Chemotherapy drugs should be made cheaper: Manisha Koirala

Chemotherapy drugs should be made cheaper: Manisha Koirala

Manisha Koirala talks a little louder these days. Every word is clearly pronounced and a lot of energy is put behind what she speaks. The Manisha Koirala that I see today is a far cry from the one I new knew before her cancer surgery.
Getting her to talk post her return from New York was not easy. She was not well, she was jet-lagged and she didn’t fancy speaking to the media anymore.
I had been trying to speak to her right from the time she landed in New York and every time, I was told that she was not keeping well. Knowing her condition, I didn’t press much.
———————————————————————–
I was in a local train on the Harbour line of Mumbai when my phone rang. On the other end of the line was Manisha Koirala.
I’ll reproduce a part of the conversation that I had with her over the next half an hour…
—————————————————————————–
Hi, is this Shomaya Dwittiya? (this is how she pronounces the name) I am Manisha
Hi! Is this your new number? I actually don’t have this number saved…
I always had this number, I never used it before. All’s well with you?
I should be asking you this. How are you feeling to be back in Mumbai?
You know that feeling when you come back home after a long business trip…after you are suddenly put in an unfamiliar surrounding for a long time, you stay in unfamiliar weather, eat unfamiliar food and do unfamiliar things… and then one day you come back home? It’s like coming back to your mom. It’s a strange kind of balm on the mind. It’s a feeling that you wouldn’t be able to explain.
More than ‘unfamiliar’, it was a hell of a struggle…
Please don’t call it a struggle. I would rather say that it was a life changing experience for me. It has made me a newer and a positive person. Today, I am thankful to be breathing in this world, thankful for God taking care of me, thankful that so many people were around me when I was going through the toughest of times. People who I held so close to my heart were rallying around me when I was down. I am really happy that lakhs of people used to send me messages on Facebook and Twitter everyday. Yes, I was going through an experience that changed my life…
But Manisha, a lot of people close to you never really bothered to find out how you were…
Look you can either look at the glass half full or say that the glass is half empty. I would rather say that the glass is always full. People who I always considered my friends were there by my side. God is there by my side. My fans were there by me. So, life was a happy space when I was going through my treatment.
But you were alone, all by yourself, for six months in New York with nobody around you except for two friends and your family members…
The New York weather can get very depressing at times as the sky used to be overcast. I used to look out of my window and take pictures on my phone. I posted some of the pictures online. I used to read the lovely mails that by my fans sent me. I used to feel their warmth. The post surgery recuperation was hard because there are a lot of changes that you have to make to your lifestyle. There was a Punjabi doctor who was taking care of me and she told me that the biggest killer today is stress. The more stressed you are, the more you are prone to cancer. The first positive change was to make myself stress free and be cheerful. It was hard because chemotherapy is known to induce depression but I fought hard. It was really tough to lie on the bed and tell yourself that you will be okay soon. But I managed. I kept telling my fans how I was doing (on Facebook and Twitter). There were times when I was down, but the next day I was up again. And look here, I am talking to you and I am cancer free today.
Do you agree that because you are Manisha Koirala you could afford that treatment. Cancer treatment still remains out of a common man’s reach…
Chemotherapy is difficult and an expensive treatment to go through. It damages your hair follicles (you become bald) and it makes a lot of changes in your body. It is a type of toxin (poison) that destroys a lot of things inside your body. Yes, it is a very expensive treatment and a lot of people in India still cannot afford the treatment. That is why there is a strong need to make chemotherapy drugs affordable for the public.
I read a photo-essay recently about people living on the pavements outside Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai just to get treated there. They live on the pavements because they cannot get a bed inside the hospitals and some cannot afford it. It was a heart-wrenching story. I have decided that when I am able to gather the resources, I will do something for making cancer treatment affordable to people. I want to form a peer group, who can arrange money for cancer patients who cannot afford cancer treatment. More than individual people, corporate houses need to join hands and make cancer treatment more affordable. I am going to work towards it, I promise.
I heard you are writing a book on your life. When do you plan to come out with it? Are you also planning to blog like Lisa Ray?
The book is well on its course. I am looking for a publisher for the book. I want to write a blog but first I want to write the book on surviving cancer. Basically, whatever I learnt in New York, I want to dispense that knowledge to everybody in India. There are a lot of small changes in your life that can make a big change to your body’s system. I want to write about it in the form of a book and then may be put some of my opinions on a blog. The book will come first and then the blog. Will tell you when I find a publisher.
Have you given up partying completely?
I have become a different person. I don’t allow myself to do late-nights. I keep to myself most of the time. I meditate a lot. I like contemplating.
————————————————————————————
Well, those were the relevant portions.
Before we go, here is Manisha Koirala’s first televised interview. Like a lot of you, I too was in school when I first watched her on television. Enjoy the video.

Family collects more than 4,000 cards for Jacob's 16th birthday

Posted: Jun 17, 2013 9:48 AM IST Updated: Jun 17, 2013 10:05 AM IST
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A Father's day wish came true for a Tucson Police Sergeant and his wife, Jeff and Stacie Mockbee.
The couple hoped to collect 1,600 birthday cards for their son Jacob's 16th birthday.  Jacob was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.  Doctors did not think he would make it past his first birthday.
More than 55 surgeries later, Jacob was in high spirits and ready to celebrate his 16th birthday, little did he know what surprises lay in store on that Fathers day weekend.
Stacie Mockbee said they had asked Jacob what he wanted for his 16th birthday.  He said he wanted a driver's licence.  They knew that was not possible, so the idea came to try and collect 1,600 cards for their son's birthday.
The family put out the call on Facebook and asked the Tucson Police Officers Association and the Fraternal Order of Police for help.
Jeff Mockbee said the two organizations were dedicated to helping make this happen.  Officers dedicated themselves to spreading the word among law enforcement agencies throughout the country.
The call for help also spread fast on Facebook.  The result exceeded the Mockbee's wildest imagination.  The final count: 4,600 cards from all over the world in less than a month.
Jacob's response when he saw the cards decked around his living room was simply, "wow."
The 16-year old seemed overwhelmed to see not just the cards, but all the people there to greet him, and all the gifts he received from strangers around the country.
Jacob's father, Sgt. Jeff Mockbee said they got one card from every state in the country.
"We were short Delaware and Maine, both came in, in the last couple of days," said Mockbee.
Jacob also received cards from Japan, Australia, France, and several different countries.  The Phoenix Suns, University of Arizona football players, Ms. Arizona Piper Stoeckel, the Tim Tebow foundation, and Jacob's crush- Food Network Star Giada De Laurentiis also sent in a personally signed card for Jacob.
"I knew that one would just put him over the moon," said Stacie Mockbee.
"What? Giada? Wow. How funny," Jacob had a big smile as he saw the card sent to him by De Laurentiis.
It was a very special moment for the Mockbee's as they watched their son take it all in.  They were appreciative of every birthday they could spend with their little boy.
"His body continues to give up a little bit every year, but his attitude just soars.  He is the most appreciative, happiest little boy.  He's never met a stranger.  It's the best way to describe it," said Jeff Mockbee, as he tried to hold back his tears.
Jacob went around the room, with expressions of "Wow" and "Thank you", as he saw each new card and poster.  He even turned to the news media at one point and said "Thank you all for being here."
Even though Jacob shared his birthday with Father's Day, Jeff Mockbee was happy to turn the attention over to his son.
"We didn't know Jacob was going to be here at 16, so for a father on Father's Day to see his son happy and loved, nothing can surpass that.  It's what being a father is all about," said Jeff Mockbee.
A representative from the Pima County Sheriff's office stopped by to present gifts and a card from Sheriff Clarence Dupnik.  They even brought a Sheriff's cruiser and motorcycle.
When asked how he felt about all of this, Jacob said, ""I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for letting me celebrate on your day dad.  Happy Father's Day dad."
The Mockbee's were grateful to the TPOA, FOP, Walmart, Chick-Fil-A, Jim Click, and countless other organizations who stepped up and helped make Jacob's birthday special.  They planned to spend the next few days opening the cards and sending out a few thank you cards to those who really went above and beyond to help.
Stacie Mockbee said every card was special, but the hand made cards from children around the country were their favorite ones.

Learn As Much By Writing As By Reading.

Dear Friend,

"Life is like a cash register, in which every account, every thought, every deed, like every sale is registered and recorded", according to wise people.  In other words, not a single moment of our lives is uneventful and insignificant as it may appear to us.   Every moment is as important as any other so-called important moment in our lives.   We should be aware of  the fact that reading is a basic tool in the living of a good life.  That is why the great writer W. Somerset Maugham has said "I would sooner read a timetable or a catalog than nothing at all".  If we try to analyse and understand the full meaning of what he says, we can easily arrive at the conclusion that not a single moment of your life should be wasted idly, because the moment once passed by never returns.  In fact, every moment should used by us in knowing things that we have left unexplored, though they, there is every likelihood, ought to have been known by us.  You should, therefore, be always ready to utilise every fraction of a second, because time and tide wait for none.  Think over every thought which may seem of some use to you and may affect your action.  What you do today is going to decide your future.  You can understand it the other way also--your future is lying in your hand in the time present.

"The future is purchased by the present, "Dr. Samuel Johnson wrote.  If you want to secure a good future for yourself, you will have to use your present in the best possible way.  If you want to succeed, get ready to face the challenges that come your way.  Challenges are not something that should be avoided.  They must be faced valiantly.  Initial failures should never be treated as an impediment.  They should be treated as a lesson for you, worth learning.  You should learn something from every mistake.  Learn something from every mistake that you commit and decide not to repeat it.  Mistakes overcome cease to be mistakes.  Those who give up an act before doing it are not supposed to succeed, because a deed needs commission, not omission.  Omission tends to result in lethargy and lack of fervour and zeal.  If you do a thing half-heartedly, you cannot think of getting anything in all its totality.  That deed is alone a deed which is done with conviction and faith, and with faith everything, that you think to achieve, can be achieved. Your self-confidence and faith in yourself can never mislead you.  A well-thought-out plan calls for your self-confidence and conviction.  If you have full faith in your capability, nothing in this world is going to deter you from achieving what you want from your life.  All that is needed is that all your capability should be kept in readiness and you should be ready to set off.

It is your getting ready for a task which matters most.  There is an old adage "When the student is ready, the lesson appears".  In other words, before looking at a lesson you cannot read it.  After reading it, you try to understand it.  But never lose track of the fact that once you understand what you have read, you have to use it time and again and that can be possible only when you have practised it.  It is your practice which makes you perfect.  Lord Acton's words, "Learn as much by writing as by reading", corroborate this fact.  Learning by writing is some sort of keeping a record which constitutes life itself.

Use your knowledge as your servant which should always serve you.  It should never command you.

Wishing you all knowledge at your disposal,

A Reasonable Probability is The Only Certainty.

Dear Friends,

"Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today" is a famous line by Benjamin Franklin,  the great US statesman and scientist.  This oft-quoted line implies that you must put yourself in control of yourself.  In other words, you should have very clear perception of the tendency which impedes your progress.  It is your own tendency which forces you to let obstacles succeed and should try your best to explore ways to overcome those obstancles.  It is possible only when you turn your negative thoughts into positive and make the most of opportunities available to you from time to time.  You ought to improve your interactive skills by learning more about yourself, building confidence and self-esteem.

You should, however, learn to be positive.  Always remember the fact that you are the maker of your own personality.  Personality is to a man what a perfume is to a flower  You can yourself write your success story, if you allow yourself to be successful.  For that you need to change your attitude towards the things by plugging into the powr of positive thought.  This you can do when you programme yourself to change your beliefs and create a positive attitude.

It is here that your conviction plays a vital role.  You have to pay heed to the age-old truth pointed ouot by the prophetic philosopher, Confucius.  He said that to see what is right andnot do it, is want of coourage, or of principle.  Be courageous enough to take responsibility and stop blaming everything else.  If you are courageous, you can use resourceful response to achieve a positive outcome.  You should not be ignorant of the fact that you can turn setbacks into opportunities, it  leads towards your goal.  Here also you are advised to remember that you should have the passion to seize the opportunities that you find en route to your goal.  In the process, you will have to take risks, sos that you can become a winnser in life.   Stop, look, organisse, and listen to what your self says to you.  Never miss that message.  Listen caraefully to your self talk andchallenge your inner critic.  If you do so, you can clarify your thought and open up the dialogue.  This enables you to come up with the appropriate response and that too, in an effortless manner.

The most effective way to maximise your performance is to minimise the impact of day-to-day interferences.  The next stage is dividing the long projects into a number of smaller, more tangible and digestible projects to march with calculated steps.  By making steady progress in this way, you will be able to eliminate the worry and guilt that hold you back.  Worry and guilt are nothing but a waste of time and energy that are very precious with regard to your accomplishment of a task.  For the accomplishment of a task, it is very necessary that worry and guilt do not find any room.  You should gain confidence and believe in yourself, if you are keen to succeed.  Your cherished goal.  A reasonable probability is the only certainty.

Wishing you a positive attitude with unflinching self-belief..
