Mutharamman Temple at Kulasekara Pattinam *

The king of pandya, named as Kula sekaran, had ruled over this land, for more than 50 years, from 1251 A.D. During his time, he invaded on the kingdom of Kerala, and conquered, with the help of the blessing of, goddess Mutharamman, in his dream. As per the directives, given by the goddess Mutharamman, the king Kula sekara pandyan, had innovated the sea port, and had extended the facilities to that place. Hence, this place had been, name transformed as Kula sekara pattinam..

Kula sekara pattinam, after the independence of India, had lost it's significance, as a sea port and had been deserted , as well ,lost it's rail way line from Thiruchendur, which had been erected, by the British government, at the time of their reign, in India. It again recovered it's lost-significance, by the way of spiritual vibration, that is, the emerge, of the temple of, goddess Mutharamman.

The salient feature, of this temple has been, that goddess Mutharamman, had selected her statue by Herself. As this goddess, has been suyambu, that the presiding deity couldn't be chisel touched, by the sculptor. Today itself, we could able to see that suyambu vigraga, beneath the feet of goddess Mutharamman. The story as follows. When, the people of kulasai, wanted to consecrate a big statue of goddess Muthara mman, they confused a little bit, that what size, the vigraga would have been.

That night, the gooddess Mutharamman, appeared in the dream of the temple guru, and ordered him to go to the place, called as 'Mylady', near Kanya kumary district. She told him to get the statue of her, residing with lord Shiva, from the sculptor, called as Subbiah.

The same night, in the dream of that sculptor Subbiah, the goddess Mutharamman, ordered him that he could make one statue of her, reside with god Shiva, from the single rock, which had been called as male-female, rock, situated at the south. Again she, ordered him to give that statue, to the people of Kulasai, when they would approach him, very soon. She also ordered him, that the statue could have been consecrated, in the place, where her suyambu vigraga resides.

One more noted thing, happening here in kula sekara pattinam, during the festival of Dasara, there has been a strange ritual, among devotees, that they could disguise in various forms of god and goddesses. They formed as a group, at their respective villages or towns, and could march towards Kula sekara pattinam, accompanied with musical troops and dance groups, on the 10th day of Dasara festival. We could, on that day in the temple, see various colors of people in disguise forms, as they have done it as a ritual.
